Research Groups

The range of work of the chair comprises all questions of design, implementation, test, maintenance and analysis of complex software systems, especially for parallel and real-time computing environments. The objectives of the Chair for Operating Systems are pursued in two research and engineering areas.

Real-Time Group
Various real-time operating systems are evaluated by benchmarking and testing as well as extended with particular real-time features. Since standard PC-based systems and corresponding components are becoming more and more important for embedded applications, one major research topic is to develop distributed/parallel real-time environments with of-the-shelf embedded hardware and real-time operating systems.

Parallel Systems Group
Driven by the demand of parallel system users, one area of activity at the chair is to develop system services and parallel programming interfaces to simplify the usage, add functionality and enhance application performance of parallel systems. In particular, there has been work done on distributed synchronization services, shared virtual memory, communication libraries for metacomputing environments and programming interfaces for memory-coupled cluster systems.
