Call for Project Posters / Call for Papers

In continuation of a successful series of events, the next symposium of the Many-core Applications Research Community (MARC) will take place at guesthouse Königshügel of the RWTH Aachen University. On November 29th and 30th, researchers from different fields will present their current and future work on many-core hardware architectures, their programming models, and the resulting research questions for the upcoming generation of heterogeneous parallel systems.

Both MARC members and interested external organizations are invited to submit unpublished reports, both on work in process or new results regarding software for novel many-core hardware architectures. While the Intel Single-chip Cloud Computer (SCC) serves as common research platform for most MARC members, other interesting research on next generation many-core platforms (in particular the forthcoming Intel Many Integrated Core (MIC) platform) is also relevant for this event.

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

  • Operating system support for novel many-core architectures
  • Virtualization solutions to deal with hardware limitations
  • Dealing with legacy software on novel many-core architectures
  • New approaches for leveraging on-die messaging facilities
  • Experiences porting, running, or developing applications
  • Traditional and new programming models for novel many-core hardware
  • Power-aware many-core computing
Call for Project Posters

The Poster Session of the upcoming MARC Symposium will provide an interaction opportunity for researchers, developers and users to present and demonstrate their Many-core related research projects. The session will offer presenters an open platform for exchanging ideas and for obtaining feedback in an informal setting and it gives conference attendees a forum where they can learn about novel ongoing projects or where they can keep up with progress reports. Furthermore, this session will also provide an ideal location for PhD students to present their preliminary findings and to discuss them with the MARC community.

Since we want to make this session a colorful marketplace where different research fields should be covered, we decided to make the topics of interest of this Call for Posters likewise widespread: Welcome are all posters displaying Many-core related projects (large or small), updates on ongoing projects and work-in-progress, or just innovative ideas or observations not yet mature for a full paper.

Poster abstracts will be peer-reviewed by members of the Posters Committee based on relevance to the Many-core Applications Research Community. Poster authors are invited to submit Poster Title, Author List and a short Poster Abstract of about 100 words to the following email address until November the 9th: marc2012@lfbs.rwth-aachen.de

Call for Papers

All authors are invited to submit innovative work as either regular papers (maximum 6 pages) for oral presentation or short papers (maximum 4 pages) for poster presentation. Papers describing work-in-progress are also welcome.

Please use the IEEE document templates:

All accepted and presented submissions will be published online and will be assigned with ISBN and URN for making them referenceable and visible to an even wider audience. The copyright remains with the authors. Paper submission is possible through EasyChair: The best papers will receive an award from Intel.

Registration

  • Please register here for the symposium before November the 16th.
  • The conference fee is 100 EUR.

Symposium Venue

The symposium venue is located at the guesthouse Königshügel of the RWTH Aachen University. Directions to the guesthouse is published at its website.

Location

Aachen, known as an “Europastadt” (City of Europe), is Germany’s westernmost major city at whose city boundaries three nations with three languages converge. It is the centre of a dynamic, cross-border knowledge region and stands for world-class university education in Natural Sciences and Engineering. Almost 5,000 international RWTH students from 120 nations, along with the close contacts the University has with its around 100,000 graduates worldwide, give the scientific center of Aachen an international atmosphere. At the same time of the next MARC Symposium, the Aachen Christmas Market takes place at the squares and streets round the Cathedral and the Town Hall, with approx. 1.5 million visitors every season. You will get the chance to meet participating researchers, in a less formal atmosphere, at the social event of the MARC symposium, sponsored by Intel Labs.

Accommodation

Please make your own hotel reservation. Some popular hotels are the "Novotel Aachen City", "Mercure am Graben" or "Aachen Best Western Regence" hotels. These are nice hotels with reasonable prices within walking distance (20-30 minutes) from the symposium location through the old city of Aachen. An alternative is the "IBIS Aachen Marschiertor" hotel which is close to the main station, which is convenient if you are traveling by train and also want to commute to the Center by train (4 trains per hour, 2 stops). You may find a complete list of hotels on the web pages of Aachen Tourist Service.
